Cameraphobia

The slideshow Cameraphobia is the final piece of the exhibition Stage Fright, a co-production between FoMu and MUHKA. This eclectic and diachronic series of archival images, assembled by Dominique Somers, focuses on the power of the camera and the ambivalence of the reality created by the camera: the artificial decor of a TV game show, the controlled lighting of the orchestra pit, the public gallery surrounding the stage, the chess-like configuration of actors performing, the anachronism of a high-tech camera filming a costume drama, the tangle of cables, spotlights, ladders and microphones, — all designed to generate an optimal degree of visibility.
