Starscape, 2014.

Image of a starry sky with all the original white dots retouched. Black oil paint on lambdaprint, wooden frame. 180 x 120 cm. Permanent collection FOMU Antwerp.

Starscape shows a pocked, black monochrome, the result after every white dot on the image of a starry sky was erased with oil paint. The dark bas-relief only becomes apparent when looking at the surface from an angle, in the reflection of light. What should disappear by the act of retouching, acquires texture and dimension in this work. It even transforms into the essence of the image.
